Increase Website Traffic With Unique Content &
September 1, 2008 4:37 am trafficIt’s a simple fact of life that most people are lazy.
We try to achieve things in life with the minimum of
effort. When it comes to generating traffic to
websites, why should we suspect people will be any
different? They aren’t.
A whole industry has grown around the desire to get
lots of traffic to websites quickly and for free. The
truth of the matter though is that most of this
traffic is simply not quality, targetted traffic that
is genuinely interested in the contents of the
websites they’re visiting. Often it is other internet
marketers using these methods to try and get traffic
to their own websites rather than being interested in
the content of others.
Targetted, quality traffic comes from people actively
searching the web or from Web 2.0 sites where groups
of targetted people hang out. Getting your site
noticed when people search the web using search
engines is either; free and difficult for the natural
search results, or easy & expensive for Pay Per Click.
It is still a website owner’s main ambition to get in
the top natural search results for their main
keywords, or at least for a number of their long-tail
keywords. To achieve this needs genuinely unique,
keyword targeted content on the websites and also out
on the net in places such as blogs and article
directories.
The key terms here are ‘unique’ and ‘keyword
targeted’. For too long people have used duplicate
content or tried to spin public label rights content
to save time. This has resulted in some shockingly bad
content all over the internet and at last search
engines are cracking down on this. Content that is
less than 30% different from other content online is
currently considered duplicate. Only the original
content (or the content the search engines believe to
be the original) will have value. There is no reason
to suspect that the search engines won’t raise this
originality threshold further in the future to further
improve standards.
If you need results on today’s net, you must have
genuinely unique keyword targeted content both on your
site and in blogs and in articles with related,
keyword targeted backlinks to your site. For content
to be considered unique it must be at least 30%
different to other content online. Expect this
percentage to rise and work on at least 50% different
to be on the safe side.
The more content you can create and get out there that
includes as many of your keywords as possible, the
better your results will be. Consistency in producing
high quality content and backlinks brings results both
in site ranking and free internet traffic from the
search engines.
